“Terrazze del Cilento” Residence is near the historic centre of Casal Velino.

Casal Velino, Cilento’s focal point, gives the opportunity to discover a territory which is rich in traditions, culture and environmental beauties, not yet spoilt by mass tourism. It is in the heart of Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, which was acknowledged by UNESCO as a world cultural and natural heritage.

Casal Velino, whose ancient name was Casalicchio, was a self-sufficient town until 1806. it took the name of Casalvelino in 1893. The first historic information dates back before the year one thousand. The nucleus of houses stood by the port of St. Matthew, one of the few that was still active until the Middle Ages.

Casal Velino has about four thousand six hundred (4600) inhabitants, it stands at the feet of Mount Stella by the mouth of the river Alento, in Cilento, on a hill overlooking the gulf of Velino. It consists of the divisions of Acquavella, Marina di Casal Velino, Vallo Scalo, Verduzio, Bivio di Acquavella.

The division of Marina di Casalvelino has a modern port with all the facilities to welcome pleasure boats and those who love water sports such as sailing, surfing, scuba diving. It also has a sandy beach –more than seven kilometres long – which is a meeting and fun place for families and for young kite surfing lovers who liven up the sunny seafront with their coloured kites and their original evolutions.

The division of Capoluogo, seat of a museum of folk culture, presents a maze of small narrow streets, dating back to the Middle Ages, in which there are the oldest historic building of the town leading to sudden wide stretches where there are houses built with the typic Cilentan stone and from where it is possible to behold all in one go the tower of Velia, the cape of Ascea, the capo of Pisciotta and the lighthouse of Palinuro.

At sunset, like in a enchanted landscape, the bell tower’s lights are the first to be lit then little by little they are followed by the lights of the small streets of the historic centre and finally by the lights of the surrounding area, turning the panorama into a dreamy and peaceful picture.
